Head Coach/Director of Fencer Development
Chris Slaughter was trained by the internationally renowned Vladimir Nazlymov, 10-time World Champion and 6-time Olympic medalist, twice named the world’s best sabre fencer by the (F.I.E.) International Fencing Federation, and current fencing head coach of Ohio State University. Chris was selected for the US Junior and Senior national team to compete in World Cups and trained with the Russian and German national teams to prepare for the Olympic Games. Chris fenced with many of the world’s top fencers during the rebirth of the American fencing era. He has trained with US national champions Peter Westbrook, Mika’il Sankofa, Terrence Lasker, Akhnaten Spencer-El, and Keeth Smart. In addition, he was an important training partner to Stanislav Pozdniakov while he prepared in the US with coach Nazlymov prior to the 1996 Olympics. Chris started coaching in 2007 and has developed a variety of highly effective training techniques and strategies designed to develop the ultimate fencing athlete. He has taught at all competitive levels in St. Louis and Kansas City.

The Intermediate program is for youth fencers (school age) who have completed the Beginner Program or fenced before and need to refresh their skills. Intermediate level fencing groups are conducted either in foil or epee and provide more competitive level training. The student in this level will work on initial understanding of fencing tactics, improving hand – and footwork, better distance control, improve technical skills, Better understanding of fencing rules, better offensive and defensive skills, improved conditioning level, increased work in pairs during fencing exercises.

The Competitive Level Program is designed for fencers who have completed the Intermediate level fencing program in our club or a similar type of program in another fencing school. Typically, a fencer at this level has a good skill set, confidence and has participated in at least one regional competition before joining this level. The fencers at the Competitive level improve: Fencing techniques and skills, advance foot and hand work, fencing techniques and skills, physical condition; such as endurance, speed and strength Understanding of fencing tactics and strategies, Analysis of performance at competition, Analysis of performance at competitions..
ApplyFrisco fencing academy conducts structured fencing classes for kids, youth and adults as well as individual private fencing lessons. Composed of 5 levels, from Introduction and beginners to competitive fencers.
